National children’s charity CHICKS provides free respite breaks for children aged 8-15 from across the UK for reasons including child poverty, bereavement, bullying, abuse, caring responsibilities and more. Children are referred to CHICKS by professionals, including teachers or social workers, to stay at one of CHICKS’ retreats in the South West and Derbyshire for five days from February to December. The children are accompanied by three fully-trained members of the CHICKS team, and up to six adult volunteers.
CHICKS respite breaks in the South West and Derbyshire give children the opportunity to have fun, make new friends, have adventures, try new challenges and activities, and make lasting positive memories.
Since 1992 over 15,600 children have benefitted from a CHICKS respite break at one of our retreats. However, more children are referred to the charity each year than its retreats can currently accommodate – with your help, CHICKS want to change this and say ‘yes’ to more children.
“By providing respite breaks that allow children to just be children, CHICKS makes a huge impact to those who need it the most. We’re so happy to be supporting them with Advent of Change.”
